School Cancellation

Good Afternoon Parents, Guardians, Staff and Students,

Today additional staff have notified the school that they have tested positive for COVID-19. Therefore, in consultation with Dr. Solek, our superintendent of schools, in addition to other CTECS personnel the decision has been made to close school tomorrow due to staff shortage creating a safety concern.

In providing you with some insight to the staffing concerns we have 21 personnel out and only 10 available substitutes to fill some positions. Not being able to cover an instructional position in academics could impact 60 or more students with no one to cover the classes. Concerns in food service have resulted in the inability to serve breakfast and lunch. As you are aware, transportation issues (buses) are not being provided to students coming from districts that have also closed.

We are committed to returning to school as soon as possible, but once again we need staff and students that are healthy and virus free. New health protocols have been put in place shortening quarantine time and only contact tracing outside of school. In addition, within a couple of days we will receive COVID test kits for distribution to staff and students when we return to school. Unfortunately, that will not be tomorrow.

I will update you tomorrow. Thank you for your continued patience and understanding.

Principal Mello
